Sadie Nash Leadership Project – Leadership Scholars

This six-week summer program develops leadership, activism, and self-advocacy skills in young women and gender-expansive youth through workshops, discussions, and community-based projects. Participants receive a stipend and join a network of changemakers.

Open to young women and gender-expansive students in NYC entering grades 9–12; prioritizes students from historically marginalized communities.

Seeds of Fortune Online College Prep Network

This program supports young women of color in gaining college admission and scholarships through a network that includes virtual workshops, mentorship, SAT prep, and career exploration. Students create a financial aid and college application strategy with long-term support.

Open to current 10th and 11th-grade girls of color in the U.S.; applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and an interest in financial literacy and college success.

Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program

A competitive, four-week summer internship placing rising high school seniors (current juniors) from underserved communities in NYC in court chambers of state or federal judges, augmented with professional development workshops, mentorship, and college-prep support.

Must be a current NYC high school junior attending school in one of the five boroughs, have valid working papers (Student General Employment Certificate), and be available for a one-day orientation in May and a summer internship in July.

Summer Design Institute

A city-funded program for NYC high schoolers interested in media and design, technology, engineering, and fashion. Participants are matched with industry professionals to develop career skills in real-world settings.

A city-funded program offering paid summer jobs for NYC youth aged 14–24. Participants are matched with opportunities in a variety of industries, including arts, education, healthcare, and retail.

Must reside in NYC; income eligibility applies for certain age groups.

SYEP Emerging Leaders Program

A project-based and work-placement track within NYC’s paid Summer Youth Employment Program, geared toward youth facing significant life challenges, offering six weeks of paid work experience at various NYC agencies or businesses with supportive services.

Open to NYC residents aged 14–24 who are legally authorized to work and have a qualifying barrier (e.g., homeless/runaway, in or aging out of foster care, justice-involved, or receiving preventive ACS services), and must be referred by a partnering support agency.

The Climate Museum High School Internship

This internship gives students the chance to explore climate justice and public engagement through work with the Climate Museum’s exhibits, outreach, and advocacy initiatives. Interns learn climate science communication, event planning, and activism strategies.

Open to NYC high school students, typically in grades 10–12, with an interest in climate change, environmental justice, or the arts.

Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship

A paid 6–8 week summer internship placing diverse NYC high school students in legal settings—law firms, courts, or nonprofits—for administrative duties and exposure to legal careers; pays at or above $15–21+/hour.

NYC public high school students; must commit to full program hours (35–40 hrs/wk).

A paid summer (7–8 week) internship where NYC high school students learn urban forestry and environmental education by caring for trees—planting, pruning, stewarding—and assisting with community engagement efforts.
